Master Yip “Terence” Chick Pui

terence-yip-photoMaster Yip “Terence” Chick Pui ((葉 焯 琣) was born on October 26, 1950 in Taishan, Guangdong Province China. He acquired an extensive background both as a Wing Chun Kung Fu practitioner and a teacher, of both intellectual and martial pursuits. He taught English as a second language in his adoptive country of Hong Kong for eight years, and his martial arts experience exceeded thirty years.

In the late 1980’s he emigrated from Hong Kong, following his dream of bringing authentic, traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu to the United States. He became a valued asset as such, attracting exceptional students and editorial attention

A major reason for this was his heritage as a practitioner. He held the honor of becoming a senior student of Grandmaster Yip Chun, eldest son of the late Grandmaster Yip Man and the premier Wing Chun Artist in the world today.

Master Terence Yip’s priority was to teach Wing Chun in its purest form. At his school he rejected the addition of fancy, flashy movements and questionable “secrets”. A student who gained skills with Master Yip would not necessarily be able to win tournaments (especially form competition) as techniques were not explored simply because they were pleasing to the eye. However in terms of real self-defense skills his student would be formidable. Master Yip taught Wing Chun the traditional way – the way it was taught to him, which was the way Grandmaster Yip Man taught it, without embellishment.

Master Yip was also well-versed in Tai-Chi Chuan, Taoist Xuang Gong, health and nutrition and regularly gave seminars on subjects such as reflexology and the advantages of wheat grass juice.

Master Yip passed away on April 12, 2014 in New York; he was 64 year-old.
